e-Farmers Project involves assisting selected farmers to use appropriate technology, esp. in the area of ICT to develop methods of farming and marketing their produce. In the initial phase of implementation, access to basic farming requirements such as seeds, fertilizer, pesticides etc. will be made affordable. The farmers will be educated on the controlled use of chemicals so that the over-dependence on them will be reduced.
With time the farmers will be introduced to environment-friendly techniques. They will be weaned away from relying on pesticides and weed killers and will be encouraged to shift to organic farming. They will learn methods of packaging, preservation and transport of their produce that minimizes wastage and preserve the nutritional value of the produce.
